About
Emma Kent Wine (b. 1995) is a nationally-recognized composer whose music “testifies to wonder, vitality, sagacity, and nostalgia through profound simplicity” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer). A graduate of The Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, Emma earned her Bachelor’s of Music in Music Composition with Distinction in Research and Creative Works in 2017.
Commissions include Windswept (2025), commissioned by Ars Lyrica Houston, Queer Rosary (2022), commissioned by Clemson Cantorei, a mixed-voice chamber choir at Clemson University, Assurance (2021) for soprano, horn, and piano, commissioned by Juventas New Music Ensemble, After Harvey (2018) for soprano and piano, commissioned by HGOco with text by Rukmini Kalamangalam, Houston’s 2018 Youth Poet Laureate, Liftoff (2017) for brass and percussion, commissioned for Rice University’s 2017 Undergraduate Convocation, and The Two Roads (2016), commissioned by violinist Giancarlo Latta.
When she’s not composing, you may find her reading historical fantasy or Star Wars novels, playing Ultimate Frisbee, or discovering a new hobby with her girlfriend.
